About Jungliah

Jungliah Jones

Jungliah considers himself lucky to have grown up around the ocean. "I remember my father would take me out on the water every Saturday. We'd count sea turtles, dolphins and even sharks! Flying fish would jump in the boat and it was my job to pick them up and throw them back into the Atlantic. I fell in love with the ocean at a very young age," says Jungliah.

When he was a little older his family moved to the mountains. "The mountains were beautiful. I liked to swim in the rivers, climb trees and sometimes sleep in the woods! I liked to look under rocks for salamanders and crayfish. I even liked catching snakes! I fell in love with the mountains too!" When Jungliah was a teenage boy his father took a job building an airport... in Africa! It was there Jungliah learned about the world between the mountains and the ocean. "We lived in a little house on a grassy plain. I remember one morning a giraffe sticking her head in my bedroom window. We were living amongst wild animals. It was so exciting."

While living in Africa Jungliah took up the guitar. He started writing songs about the animals around him. "The first song I ever wrote was about a little caterpillar I called Migu. The name of the song was "My Friend Migu!" Jungliah returned home and got a job writing songs for a local museum. "I wrote songs about bears, whales and spiders. If it crawled, I wrote a song about it. If it swam, I wrote a song about it. If it flew, I wrote a song about it."

Wanting to learn more about animals, Jungliah left the museum and moved to a place called the Gentle Jungle. "It's my favorite place in the whole world! I have wonderful friends there. Clover the Giraffe, Bill the Zebra and Timmy the Tiger. There's a Hippo named Violet and she has a tea party every afternoon. It's so much fun living there!" Jungliah still calls the Gentle Jungle home. "I travel a lot these days, but when it's time to go home, the Gentle Jungle is where I go. There’s simply no better place on this planet!" Jungliah continues to write songs about animals and a lot of other subjects. Sometimes he performs in schools and festivals. Who knows, he might be coming to your town!
